Pollinator gardens are vitally important for fertilization and pollination, both for wild and domesticated plants. Our pollinator species are under threat for adequate habitat and food, in addition to toxic loads introduced into their food supply through pesticides and herbicides.
Pollinator gardens can supply adequate food for pollinators throughout four seasons and provide an aesthetically pleasing garden that provides medicinal and edible plants for humans as well. On Sacred Ground received a Miracle Gro Foundation grant in 2018 to install a pollinator garden in partnership with Spring Street International School on San Juan Island. We at On Sacred Ground believe that Glyphosate, the active herbicide ingredient in RoundUp is a dangerous chemical that can have adverse and toxic effects to humans and pollinators alike. Here are resources for more information and alternatives for herbicides: https://www.drugwatch.com/roundup/glyphosate/ https://www.drugwatch.com/roundup/alternatives/ |
