Our Core Values

Picture
     Our Vision:
We are a group of passionate stewards of the land and sea.
We are dedicated to caring for the natural cycles of life for future generations.
We are rooted in and guided by the earth's inherent wisdom.

We focus on restoring our indigenous beings, meeting our needs as humans for food, fiber and sacred connection to the                                                           earth while simultaneously observing, preserving and aiming to enhance our ecosystem.

Our current highest priorities and core values are:

  • Biodiversity ~ the variety of life in a particular habitat or ecosystem.  We promote, encourage and create high biodiversity ecosystems.  Image below credit: https://www.worldatlas.com/articles/why-is-biodiversity-critical-to-life-on-earth.html

  • Deep Ecology ~ an environmental philosophy that regards human life as just one of many equal components of a global ecosystem.  We value non, human-centric ways of relating to the environment.
  • Environmental Education ~ organized efforts to teach how natural environments function and how human beings can manage behavior and ecosystems to live sustainably within the environment.  We are constantly learning new science and improving upon our best management practices and how we can convey that information to our audience.  Image right credit: Mentors to Mentors Program - Students investigate for forage fish eggs with Friends of San Juans' Katherine Dietzman, Shoreline & Mapping Specialist

  • Indigenous Stewardship Ethics ~ we honor and uphold the rights and responsibilities of indigenous people whom have ancestral claim on territories and bio-cultural relationships to land  and sea.  We seek to familiarize ourselves to a geographical place and its ecosystem, learning from those who have come long before us who have a tried and true relationship to natural resource management.  We contend that all people have a stewardship responsibility of the planet for future generations.

  • Permaculture ~ is an approach to land management and settlement design that adopts arrangements observed in flourishing natural ecosystems.  It includes a set of design principles derived using whole systems thinking.  We evaluate all our potential projects and programs using the three permaculture ethics: care of earth, care of people, and fair share (share the surplus).  Image left credit: https://worldpermacultureassociation.com/permaculture-and-agroecology/
  • Stewardship of Future Generations ~ we use the concept that all decisions we make are weighed as to how they benefit future generations, especially concerning the conservation and preservation of our natural world, its biodiversity and its potential for current or future flourishing ecosystems.
